Enhance Questions
What is detailing?
Our detailing or “enhancement” services have been described as the ‘perfect marriage between science and art’. Through our skill in rectifying and removing paint defects such as swirl marks, holograms and scratches we are able to renovate and refurbish old paint or enhance the original finish to far beyond the manufacturers capabilities.
Do I need to detail my brand new vehicle?
No, however even premium and low volume manufacturers have limits to the time they spend finishing a vehicles paintwork. At Topaz we can take the manufacturers finish to the next level and beyond, the improvement that is possible even on a brand new car is phenomenal.
Can you detail my car at the dealership before I collect it?
Yes, we can detail your car at the dealership before collection ensuring it looks even better than factory fresh.
What is the difference between your detailing levels?
Our standard detailing levels range from 1 to 5. The difference is primarily in the extent to which the paintwork is corrected, for example Level 1 is an entry level detail concentrating on protection whereas our Level 5 Signature Detail is our most complex process removing the clear coats “orange peel” which includes 100% paint correction factor.
How long will it take to detail my car?
Depending on the the level of enhancement you wish to achieve the timescale will usually range from 1 to 5 days, however some special projects and intricate cars can take longer.
How long will the effect last and do I need a follow up treatment?
Once detailed a lot depends on the maintenance of the vehicle, if maintained correctly the results can last 12 months or more, depending on the use of the car. Most clients have their cars detailed once a year and many have us carry out regular maintenance treatments in between to ensure the longevity of the finish.
What is “orange peel”?
The term “Orange peel” refers to paint distortion; this is the dimple effect found in the paintwork’s clear coat after it is applied at the factory. All cars possess orange peel even from new, the level of which can vary depending on the car and even the individual area of the cars bodywork.
Do you travel to other locations in the UK to detail customer’s cars?
Yes, we regularly travel throughout the UK to perform our detailing services for both private clients and trade partners.
Do you travel abroad to treat customers cars?
Yes, we do travel abroad to treat our International customers cars. More information about bookings abroad can be requested via info@topazdetailing.com.
Will detailing affect my manufacturers warranty?
No, it will not affect the manufacturers warranty of your cars paintwork, in fact correct care is an important part of maintaining your vehicles finish throughout the warranty period and beyond.
Protect Questions
What is Topaz PPF made from?
Our Topaz PPF is a unique formula of acrylic, polyurethane & urethane polymers designed to give the ultimate in protection, fit and optical clarity.
What warranty do Topaz offer on PPF installations?
When Topaz PPF is applied by our certified installers, it carries a full ten-year parts and labour warranty against cracking, peeling, staining and hazing. As the warranty is with Topaz and not the film manufacture, warranty claims are processed quickly with the minimum fuss.
How does Topaz PPF heal itself?
The clear coat is designed to heal surface scratches and common swirl marks that occur during routine washing of the car. If the scratch penetrates through the film’s clear coat, it will not heal.
How deep a scratch will heal?
Our standard detailing levels range from 1 to 5. The difference is primarily in the extent to which the paintwork is corrected, for example Level 1 is an entry level detail concentrating on protection whereas our Level 5 Signature Detail is our most complex process removing the clear coats “orange peel” which includes 100% paint correction factor.
Can Topaz PPF be washed and waxed?
Yes, you can wash and wax your vehicle as if Topaz PPF were not present.
How long does it take for a scratch to heal?
The time it takes for a scratch to heal depends on the severity of the scratch and the ambient temperature. Minor scratches usually heal in one hour at room temperature (22°C). In warmer climates, healing time will be shorter. The healing process can be accelerated at any time by pouring hot water over the scratched area.
How many time will the clear coat heal itself?
With this technology, there is no limit to the number of times Topaz PPF can heal itself. As long as the clear coat is not penetrated it will heal over and over again.
How long will the clear coat last?
Depending on how the film is cared for, the clear coat can last indefinitely. Regular washing and waxing will keep the clear coat in top condition for years to come.
How does Topaz paint protection film resist staining?
The clear coat has a very low surface energy, which makes it extremely difficult for organic compounds to stick to the film. Insects, bird droppings and environmental contaminants (which would normally cause yellowing) such as road oils, exhaust smoke and pollution can be removed during regular washing. Topaz PPF works in a similar way to Teflon coating – protecting the surface of the pan beneath it by preventing anything from sticking.
What if a stain does not come off the film during normal washing?
If ordinary car wash or soap and water won’t remove a stain, there are a variety of products that can do the job. In most cases simple isopropyl rubbing alcohol will remove anything on the surface of the film. In cases of more severe staining, or where something has been left on the film for a long period of time, a sparing amount of lacquer thinner can be used. Bug and tar remover, available at auto parts stores, is also effective.
